Only 2 races in 3 days, not enough to award the Italian Championship title of the 2013 season. In an atypical sunny Garda days, 35 moth have met in Campione for the last leg of the Eurocup 2013 series. The typical thermal wind “ora” never arrived during the 3 days leaving the race committee the hard job to find some good sailing windows with the north wind “peler”. No race at all the first day, only one race sailed the second day in a 15/18 knots north wind that dropped down early without leaving the opportunity to race a second regatta and only 1 race the last day with a super light north wind have given the opportunity to Stefano Rizzi to win the regatta with 2 bullets, the Eurocup tour but not becoming the 2013 Italian champion as he would have needed 3 or more races for the Championship.
This last event confirms the good shape of the moth class in Europe and in Italy too, growing in numbers and in quality of the sailors. The Eurocup 2013 was sailed by more than 130 competitors and the next year lot of Mothies are expected to come to Europe for the Worlds that will be held in UK at the Hayling Island Sailing Club.
The Italian class constantly growing in the last two seasons is planning to arrange an Italian tour for the 2014 season with 3 regattas already planned: Lovere (Iseo Lake) in May, Dongo (Como Lake) in June and the Italian Championship in July in Torbole (Garda Lake). We expect to have during the next season in the circuit more than 20 Italian moths on the starting line in every event.
