MAR_8971Today, Act 1 of the EFG MothEuroCup comes to a close at the CVB. The competition for the grand prize was between Chris Rast and Pablo Arandia. The CVB ran two races in winds gusting to 29 knots at the top mark. Off the water, the sailors explained that is was not the wind strength that was difficult, but the very big shifts and even bigger lulls and gusts at the top mark. Chris Rast explains “if we said the other day was really shifty, I am not sure what I should call today.”

Pablo Arandia had a solid day, scoring a 1,1. He explained that he felt fast around the race course and played it safe with his maneuvers. He also shared that he must think about what made him fast for the future, so he can continue doing well in races. Chris Rast had a few issues around the race course; he scored two 2nds. Talking with him, it seemed like he was not happy at all with his upwind boat handling. “I felt very confident with my boat and happy with my speed, I just had poor tacks that cost me a lot of meters.” In the end Chris had 3 points to spare on Pablo, it was good racing!

France winners

Unfortunately, with the wind being so strong there were also a few breakages today. Mathieu Frei, who was winning the French nationals this morning had major boat damage and retired from racing before the second start. The French National Title goes to Yann Andrillon, who sailed a great day scoring a 3,3. Congratulations Yann!

EFG act 1 winnersThe top three sailors of the EFG Moth Euro Cup 2014 Act 1 receive a cash prize from our title sponsor EFG!
