MAR_1097    “A great event with excellent regatta and course management!” Chris Rashley GBR, EFG MothEuroCup Act 2 Winner, explains as he hit the dock. Ben Paton GBR and Chris Rashley GBR are sparing partners and it showed on the race course. They had a good fight today, but Ben could not quite get to Chris, regardless of how many times he tacked on him upwind. Giovanni Galeotti sailed another great regatta, placing fourth. Sailors today, even the top of the fleet had to work extra hard today on port tack down wind. The waves on port tack were inline with the downwind sailing angle, so you saw many capsizes downwind. The competitors on the race course also were seeing 30 degree shifts on the race course, which adds to the excitement on the boat!

MAR_0930There were a few malfunctions today. Stefano Rizzi ITA had an interesting first top mark of the day. He went in for a tack on the starboard lay-line only to capsize, then his friend Marco Lanulfi ITA had to do an evasive maneuver. The situation ended with Marco’s rudder slicing Stefano’s wing air bladder. They both laughed at the dock but were happy was the only fatality. Chris Rast, Act 1 winner, had to come in early because of a broken hiking strap.

The sailors were ready to launch at 9 am. The wind was ready too, and that was good news for everyone. It was a beautiful 10 – 13 knot breeze for the start of racing. The fleet had a few puffs over 18 knots but as racing continued the breeze faded. The race committee did a great job of completing 5 races.

The afternoon concluded with the EFG MothEuroCup Act 2 prize giving. All the sailors were there to cheer on the top 3, receiving their prize money gifted by EFG. Also, a drawing took place for the sailors to win vouchers, apparel, and line. All items were from our series sponsors SLAM, Mach2, and FSE Robline.

We would like to thank the sailors for joining us in Medemblik for Act 2 of the EFG MothEuroCup. We are hoping to see many more of you at the upcoming events! Remember that sailors participating in 4 or more acts are eligible to win the series and the overall prize money of 3,000 Euros!
