The yacht club held four races today, and there were clear winners today within the fleet. Chris Rast of Switzerland, professional sailor and Palbo Arandja of Spain, Graphic Designer did well in the fleet with scores of 1,1,2,2 and 2,2,1,1 respectively. Chris was in agreement with most of the fleet that “it was an exhausting day, trying to stay on the foils with forty degree shifts and the velocity changing from 6 knots to 18 knots”.
The Spanish moth team did very well with Pablo Arandja saying that his “one job today was to focus on staying on the foils, which was not easy!” Once again the Olympic Spanish 49er sailors showed that the 49er can be a great platform for moth sailing, this being his first regatta in a moth and reaching the front of the fleet often. Giovanni Galleotti representing Belgium stated that the theories he had about his set up this morning have changed after sailing today.
He thinks that is the beauty of the moth class. There was different thoughts throughout the fleet about what size foils to use with the wind being so inconsistent. The other concerns were how high the boats were riding and the rake of the rig.
Tomorrow is new day and we look forward to more racing!
